New to online learning?
NLU makes it easy.
Achieve your education goals online at National Louis University. Check out these tutorials for D2L, the student-centered platform on which you’ll do your online learning. See what online classes look like and know how to be successful, even before you start.
Always start with the Minibar at the top of the screen. Here, you’ll see notifications from your instructor, email, and courses so you always know what’s happening.
The bell icon in the Minibar notifies you of any new or updated announcements, due dates, and grades. (:53)
Remember, this is your workspace. Customize your profile, notifications, and account settings by clicking on your name in the Minibar, which will open a drop-down list. (1:13)
Inside the course you’re working on, you’ll see the Assignments button near the top of the page.
Because the Assignments page has the same setup for every class, you’ll always see the name of the assignment, score (if graded), feedback, and due dates.
When you click on the assignment title, you’ll view instructions for (and submit) assignments. Submit a saved file from your computer the same way you add files to an email. (:57)
Inside the course you’re working on, you’ll see the Quizzes button near the top of the page.
Similar to assignments, you’ll click on the title of the quiz you wish to complete. You’ll see the instructions before you start, so you’ll be prepared when you enter the quiz.
Quizzes are customized by class, but you may be able to retake quizzes and review correct answers later on the summary page.
If you’ve ever posted or commented on social media, Discussions will be easy for you to master. You’ll post comments to conversation threads to understand your courses and stay connected with classmates.
You can view and reply to a thread when you click on it. Reply with either text or an uploaded file from your computer.
Your instructor will ease you into using Discussions, possibly through a personal introduction. For example: “Hi, my name is __. I love to read, bake, and hike!”
My number one goal is to see you succeed. Reach out anytime with questions about D2L, financial aid, registration, or anything else.
